The Town of Rockshire

It has recently been brought to my attention that the
map found above is the "True" map of Rockshire. The one below is to be
ignored as a forgery, an attempt to mislead traders and adventurers and keep
them from the new lands of Rockshire.

This map, has since been exposed as a Forgery. I had
acquired it from a House FarStep trading Caravan. I do not believe that they
knowingly passed on a forgery, it is simply the only map that was known to exist
at the time. I hold the FarStep Trading house Blameless in its distribution. The
merchant bought this copy while trading in Kincora.
The inner town was previously known as Rock's Shire, a
small village governed by Hendrick Derrock, a dwarf with an interest in
alchemical sciences and metal-smithing. Hendrick negotiated with the Lady and
joined her Court as an authority on alchemical sciences and metal work. Hendrick
had a small following that studied with him, but many had left when an Orc tribe
known as the Bone Snatchers began to raid the village.
The Lady and her forces immediately raised the Earth and Celestial circles and
organized the resources of the village to prepare for the next attack of the
Orcs. The Bone Snatchers returned on February 23rd, 603, but were driven off, as
they were completely unprepared to meet a force of highly trained soldiers and
casters. The village was dubbed Rockshire and the Lady left several guards to
further fortify and defend the village as it was expanded into a town.
Rockshire was formally named on February 24th, 603, but much work remains to be
completed before the town can be used to gather a sizeable force.
(The following document was copied from the Royal Library
of Evendarr April 603 E.R.)
The second Baron of Trellheim was stripped of title in 560
by Duchess Gwendolyn, and her son, Powell, was appointed to take Bretton's
place. After he was relieved of his oaths, Bretton traveled the lands in search
of adventure. He and his (ex)court aided many of the common folk through out
Ashbury and what is now Avendale while they traveled, and they always served the
common folk in the name of good Baron Powell. When Powell became Duke of Ashbury
in 569, he returned to Bretton the title of Baron of Trellheim. As his traveling
years were over, the elderly Bretton graciously accepted, and became the forth
Baron of Trellheim. In the years between 560 and 569, no formal records were
made of Bretton Darkwood's travels, but his popularity with the common
people was exceptional, as was his noble manner and generous ways. Little more
than rumor and legend were previously known about Bretton Darkwood's travels.
However, the records of a young scribe by were uncovered in the Royal vaults in
the late months of 601. While some of
the records were damaged past legibility, and all were encrypted in a very
ingenious cipher, most were decoded over 602. Jonathon Chalendry, Bretton's
young scribe, started to travel with Bretton in 565 and recorded the deeds of
Bretton and his people. The records can be viewed in the Royal Library of King
Mykel.
From Jonathon's records, Bretton and his companions often came to the aid of
travelers, merchants, farmers and all who were in need of assistance. Once
Bretton became too old to travel, he settled in a manor in Ashbury proper in
567, but he granted his young friend a stipend to explore the lands to the west
of what is now Avendale. Jonathon left with a group of his choosing, but the
expedition proved to be his final journey. The group that Jonathon hired
returned with Jonathon's body and possessions in 575 to Baron Justin Medicia,
who had succeeded Baron
Bretton upon his final death of old age in 572. Baron Justin was not aware of
the expedition's goals, but he provided Jonathon with a fitting ceremony and
offered the mercenary group with considerable recompense.
The leader of the group refused, but offered to give assistance to those who
might travel again to those realms. Unfortunately, the group did not give names
and has been unable to be located. It is unknown whether they are dead or simply
disbanded. The mercenaries gave Baron Justin many valuable historical items that
had been found during their eight years of travel, and the Baron sent the items
to the Royal Academy to be studied and archived. A simple map of the area can be
viewed at the Tavern in Rockshire where all persons interested in joining the
expeditions to explore and expand will be gathering.
