As I understand it there are Five types of Magic common in the world, Earth, Celestial, Formal and Harmonics. Each has their own unique properties, and also tend to overlap each other in some ways. As I learn more about these schools of Magic, iwill post more. Briefly, here is what I know about each. Celestial: Battle magic, mainly potent offensive spells against all types of creatures with some defense mixed in. Generally, Celestial must be used in conjunction with Formal magic in the creation of Magical items and weapons. Dragon: Typically called the mightiest form of all the magics, well beyond even the power of Formal magics. Some hold that Mortals/men/elves etc. are too weak of mind to ever learn it, others say that the most powerful of mages can attain this level of expertise. Quite frankly, having only seen it in action once, and NOT by a human, I tend to agree with the former opinion on this. I think that some might earn the honorific of being called a "Dragon Mage", but when matched against the power of a TRUE Dragon, would be snuffed out like a candle in a high wind. Earth: Mainly healing and protection, with a few damage against undead, some spells can be "reversed" by the caster to cause damage vs. the living. Formal: A ritual magic, used primarily for casting long-term, permanent magics and the creation of Magical weapons and Items. Most notable and useful spell :Greater Ward. A impervious barrier to all who are not "Invested" in the circle, and is commonly used to safeguard buildings. Harmonics: A new innovation in magic, the ability to cast protective magics, and healing through the casters voice, or by playing a musical instrument. There is more to it than that, but I am unsure on the specifics.
