The following letter was sent to Seronia by Linus Morgenstern on April 8, 602. Seronia had requested that the letter be written so that people might learn about Navin Weuntzel, whom this library is named after. We thank Linus for his time and effort. Some editing has been done.
I did not know Navin as well as Kovan did, but here goes. Navin, if I remember
correctly, was not a native of the Ferry. Like most of the rest of us he was
sucked into the mists and deposited into Shandlin's Ferry. His scholarship helped
to find out how to defeat the Shadow Juggernaut, one of the first major evils
that beset the ferry, and it was not his fault the sword was improperly forged
so that the juggernaut was only weakened not destroyed. He also got caught up
in the game of the trumps and took on the task of the Hermit. I'm not sure what
he did wrong in this game, but for a time was trapped as the Leper, the reverse
of the Hermit, but he was eventually freed of this on a winter weekend: the
one where the White Lady was destroyed. He died facing a vampire whose name
I forget. Though a scholar he was in the forefront of the push to reach the
vampire. The last stage of the fight was on bridges over a cavern. He tried
to lead some townspeople across the bridges, but Tribe and the Gentleman's club
were too far behind and those he was with allowed him to fall. By the time I
was knocked into the caverns he was already in need of a life spell. At that
time we did not have any, and he did not return through Death's door.
If you want to know more of the Ferry my notes and journal are either with Ember,
or the court of Eastwyck as I gave them to the Eastwyck scribe with instructions
to pass them on to Ember.
Sincerely, Linus Morgenstern, Token of Tribe
